Appalachian State University
Sanford Mall at Appalachian State University
As you embark on your next visit to North Carolina, head for the northwest and check out Appalachian State University. Found in the town of Boone, Appalachian State University, or what is more commonly referred to as App State, is a public school founded in 1899.
By 1971, App State had grown large enough to be added to the University of North Carolina System – it's one of 17 schools spread around the entirety of NC. You can tour the App State campus with your soon-to-be high school graduate and check some highlights like Sanford Mall or Belk Library.
Drive in from nearby cities like Jefferson or Banner Elk and check out some of the college sports action App State provides. During the late summer and into the fall, be sure to catch an App State Mountaineers football game at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
Also known as The Rock, Kid Brewer Stadium seats 30,000 fans – be one on your next visit. During the late winter and into the spring, head for George M. Holmes Convocation Center for Mountaineer basketball games.
