Visiting the North Carolina Coast

Spring sees communities along the North Carolina Coast welcoming visitors with a wealth of ways to have fun – both indoors and out. Adventures await in state parks – don't miss Hammocks Beach State Park – and communities from Wilmington to Kill Devil Hills are planning all sorts of special events, festivals, concerts, and other family-friendly fun.

Spring weather is perfect for a day out on the links, and the Tar Heel State’s eastern reaches lay claim to several first-rate golf courses. The Beau Rivage Golf Course is a go-to for Wilmington visitors, and Swansboro visitors can play a round or two at the 18-hole Silver Creek Golf Club.

Fans of the fast and the furry flock to the Porter's Neck Country Club in Wilmington for the 3rd Annual Derby 4 Dogs on May 7th. It’s a garden party charity event hosted by Paws4People, with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, and a viewing of The Kentucky Derby. Get all dolled up and be there at 4 p.m. – prizes will be given out for best hat and best bowtie.

North Carolina football fans are most likely still reeling from the Carolina Panthers’ heartbreaking loss in Super Bowl 50, but there’s plenty of football action this summer – it’s just the “other” kind of football. The Wilmington Hammerheads soccer leave it all out on the pitch as they host USL action at Legion Stadium. Be there on June 17th, when they take on the Bethlehem Steel FC. Game time is 7 p.m.

October 6th through 9th, the 2016 Outer Banks Parade of Homes is an opportunity to explore some of Duck Beach’s finest historic homes. What better way to spend a balmy day along the 60-mile coastline near Elizabeth City and Kill Devil Hills?

To get out and get active as summer cools off, join the Cape Fear Flyers Running Club at Carolina Beach State Park for the 2016 Monster Dash. Runners choose between scenic 2K and 6K courses. The fun also includes a costume contest.
