Visiting North Carolina Piedmont Triangle & Coast

Raleigh, the “City of Oaks”, is the second largest city in North Carolina and is known for its many oak trees - native dogwood oaks are seen widely throughout the state of North Carolina, as the thick foliage provides cool shade against the heat of the summer sun. A part of the “triangle” of NC, Raleigh is flanked by Durham and Chapel Hill - making these three historical cities the largest metropolitan area in North Carolina. Divided into two regions, Raleigh has an “Inner Beltline” and an “Outer Beltline” which run on interstate 440. Downtown/ Old Raleigh lies inside and while the more residential areas are located outside. Raleigh is a city of excitement mixed with the hospitality of a classic southern state.

Visit Raleigh and see why it is ranked as one of the best places to live and visit. With five Best Western hotels in the immediate area, a trip to Raleigh can be one of comfort, convenience and a ton of fun.

Advanced Auto Parts presents the 2011 “Monster Jam Truck Show” April 1st and 2nd. Larger than life trucks with oversized engines take over the heart of Raleigh at the RBC Center. With names like “Maximum Destruction”, “Bounty Hunter” and the “Grave Digger”, these big mama-jama's are anything but friendly. Crushing every small car that gets in its way while freestyling doughnuts, wheelstands and jumps- these destructive monster-sized trucks are giving motorsports a new name.

The Spring 2011 Second Empire Grand-Prix series for runners is here. With a total of sixteen races over the course of a year, athletes have the opportunity to participate in races ranging from the classic 5k and 10k, to half marathons during both the spring and fall. The spring series starts January 8th with a “Run for Young 5k”, and ends with the “Inside-Out Sports Classic Half Marathon” on May 22nd. So lace up your trainers and register early while there are spots still available.

The Raleigh Classic, featuring a wide selection of rare and classic cars is coming to the North Carolina State Fairgrounds. On June 24th and 25th, Raleigh is hosting the largest classic car auction of its kind. Held in the Jim Graham Building and the adjoining Exposition Building, hundreds of cars are on display including; rare muscle cars, mint conditioned originals, rare convertibles and stunning British automobiles. Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and refreshments during the auction and after the bidding is over, delight in a post cocktail and hors d’eouvre reception. With the popularity of classic cars constantly growing, finding a quality one can be hard- the selection found at the Raleigh Classic makes the feat easier for those looking to purchase or simply browse these fine automobiles.

Raleigh is a bevy fun, from extreme sports to enjoying the finer things in life, you’re certain to find an event to meet your fancy in this region of the “tri city” metropolitan area of North Carolina.
