From: Interstate 40. Take US Highway 1 South (Exit 293) and head towards Sanford and Asheboro. Take the Walnut Street exit (Exit 101A) and turn right onto Walnut Street. The Best Western Plus Cary - NC State is located on the right side behind the Waffle House.

From: RDU Airport. Head northwest on Airport Boulevard toward West International Drive. Make slight right to stay on Airport Boulevard. Take the Aviation Parkway South ramp on the left to I-40 East/Raleigh. Merge onto Aviation Parkway and then Merge onto I-40 East. After approximately 7.5 miles take Exit 293 for US-1 South/US-64 West toward Sanford. Go about 1.1 miles and then take Exit 101A for Walnut Street toward shopping centers. Turn right at light off exit which will put you onto Walnut Street. The Best Western Plus Cary - NC State entrance is just after Jasmine restaurant on the right (approximately 100 yards).

Tour Morehead Planetarium on Your Next Visit to Chapel Hill

Blow your mind with science in Chapel Hill. The Morehead Planetarium & Science Center, opened in 1949, on the Chapel Hill campus of the University of North Carolina. It was used by the Gemini and Apollo program astronauts to train in celestial navigation.

It remains one of the largest and oldest planetariums in America. The planetarium features a fulldome measuring 68 feet in diameter and 44 feet tall, a Zeiss Model VI Star Projector and seats for 240 people. Several "Live" star shows and multimedia shows are available at the Planetarium.

The center features interactive exhibits including, Zoom In: Science at the Extremes and Bring the Universe to Light. The Science Stage features Science LIVE!, educator-led programs. The observation decks, art galleries, gardens and visitor center round out a visit.

Originally named the Raleigh Entertainment & Sports Arena from 1999-2002, then the RBC Center up until 2012, the PNC Arena makes for a great sports venue. Hockey fans make frequent trips to PNC Arena.

WakeMed Soccer Park

First opened in 2002, WakeMed Soccer Park is a 10,000 seat soccer venue. The home of the Carolina RailHawks of the NASL, and the North Carolina State University Wolfpack soccer teams, WakeMed Soccer Park is found in Cary, a charming city just west of Raleigh. Originally, WakeMed Soccer Park had only 7,000 seats – it expanded to 10,000 in 2011.

WakeMed Soccer Park features a full-sized cross country track along with the soccer grounds. It's hosted the ACC Soccer Championships, and been the training facility for the US Men's National Team on more than one occasion. Make the drive in from nearby Garner and take in a soccer match – the RailHawks play from February through early November.

William B. Umstead State Park
