Take in Some Soccer on Your Next Visit to NC
Enjoy Action on the Pitch in NC
The growing popularity of soccer across the United States is clear. The MLS has grown to 20 teams, and with lower leagues like the NASL and USL Pro each continuing their own growth, it's easy to see soccer is a new force on the American sports landscape.
Fans of the "beautiful game" in North Carolina have three major choices – the Carolina RailHawks, Charlotte Eagles, and the Wilmington Hammerheads.
A visit to Charlotte places you right in Eagles country. The Charlotte Eagles are a member of USL Pro division, the third tier in US soccer. The team was founded in 1991 as the Charlotte Eagle Soccer Club, and became a pro team in 1993.
Charlotte is also home to the Charlotte Lady Eagles, a member of the USL W-League. The season for the Eagles runs from April to August, so plan you next summer visit to Charlotte and the surrounding area and check out exciting professional soccer in NC – visit from nearby Huntersville or Monroe. The Eagles play all home matches at Dickson Field.
Make your way to the NC coast and head for Wilmington. A pleasant and scenic city, Wilmington is found just inland of the Atlantic Ocean and features some top-flight soccer action. Head for Legion Stadium and experience the excitement of live soccer for yourself.
Drive in from nearby Leland during your summer visit and enjoy a match. The Hammerheads were established in 1996 and, minus a brief hiatus from competitive play in 2010, have seen their share of success in the USL Pro.
Just west of Raleigh you'll find Cary, a charming and pleasant suburb. Cary is home to the Carolina RailHawks, a member of the North American Soccer League – the second tier of American soccer, right below MLS.
The RailHawks are a major source of local pride and entertainment. Make your way to WakeMed Soccer Park and join close to 10,000 other fans for thrilling soccer action during the season – February through early November.
If you're a big fan of soccer or just barely dipping your toes in the water, North Carolina has it's share of options for you to choose from. The Hammerheads near the coast, the Eagles in Charlotte, or the RailHawks in Cary. Make your choice and enjoy the beautiful game.
