Visiting North Carolina Mountains and Triad Cities

Name four products created in North Carolina...

...The carbonated cherry concoction Cheerwine was formulated in the basement of North Carolina businessman L.D. Peeler’s wholesale grocery in Salisbury. The sweet burgundy-hued pop is full of bubbles and bursts with cherry-flavored goodness. Passed down through three generations of Peelers family, the fizzy drink has established the cheeriest-cherry recipes ever- Cheery Cherry Pie, Cheerdevil Cake, and Cheerwine Brain Freeze Ice Cream. Forever a North Carolina favorite, Cheerwine - nectar of Tarheels.

Texas Pete Hot Sauce. Nope this fiery, tongue-scorching condiment was not created in Texas, it was made right in North Carolina. The family recipe of Sam and “Mother Jane” Harold was brewed in a tiny kitchen in Winston-Salem. To this day, Texas Pete’s recipe is still a secret and is headquartered in Winston-Salem with the Harold family holding down their original primary positions. Not only spicy, Texas Pete now comes in an array of flavors from Honey Mustard, Worcestershire, and Buffalo.

Brad’s drink, more officially known as Pepsi began in a drug store in New Bern. Local pharmacist, Caleb Bradham aimed to create a fountain drink that was delicious, healthy and boosted tons of energy. Serving his little concoction at small social gatherings, it soon caught on and dawned on Bradham that Pepsi-Cola was something special. 100 plus years later PepsiCo is one of today’s top American and internationally known brands.

The Mt. Olive Pickle Company located at the Corner of Cucumber & Vine in Mount Olive is the largest privately held pickle-company in the U.S.A. Starting out as the middle point of which cucumbers were brought and left to be sold to other pickling companies, the folks behind Mt. Olive conjured up the great idea of taking the cucumbers dropped off and instead of selling them they would create their own pickles. Labeled “the best selling pickles of the Southeast”, the Mt. Olive Pickle Company just celebrated its 85th anniversary. A pickle-loving town, every year the people who live in Mt. Olive celebrate the Annual NC Pickle Festival and the New Year’s Eve “Pickle Drop”- when a pickle drops 45 feet down a flagpole.

These are the many flavors of North Carolina, the Tarheel State. Officially the home of delicious foods, snacks and beverages, you’re sure to be inspired and full after a day visiting these NC headquarters. And with 40 Best Western hotels covering the state, you can find refuge after a day of tasting some of the flavors from the heart of North Carolina.
